Normandy

Upon arrival in France, we rented a car and drove to Normandy, where we spent the first week of our vacation. Our family rented a house in a small village west of Caen. When we pulled in, our first view was of an old gate and chapel with a grand house behind. We later found out that the gate was 11th century, the chapel 15th century, the house 17th century, and we were staying in the out-building to the side. The one that looks a little like a barn. Actually, the house was very nice, and the gardens (which we were free to roam) were beautiful.

The weather was absolutely wonderful, with temperatures in the 60s to 70s and it stayed light until after 10 at night, so we had most dinners outside in the country air. The cows would walk past our "dining room" on the way to their own dinners.

And the countryside...
