What to do in Tallahassee

Just down the road from the hotel (west) you can see the old and the new capitols (the old capitol is the building with the red and white striped awnings right in front of the 22 floor new capitol). You can tour the old capitol, see the Chambers of Congress or bring your lunch and picnic on the top floor of the new capitol. You get a great view of Tallahassee from up there.

Also available downtown are the courthouses, City Hall, and several museums. The R.A. Gray building houses the Florida History Museum and the Mary Brogan Museum of Arts and Science (MOAS) houses both an art museum and a hands-on children's science museum.

A childhood and adulthood favorite of ours is the Florida Museum of History and Natural Science, located on the west side of Tallahassee. This museum has local wildlife exhibits, nature trails, a petting zoo, and several historic buildings.

Springtime Tallahassee takes place on the morning of the wedding (www.springtimetallahassee.com) The main event is the parade that runs through downtown, beginning at 10:30 a.m. There is also a downtown marketplace on this morning, but don't forget to give yourselves plenty of time to get to the wedding ;-)

The Florida State University's Flying High Circus will have performances on Friday and Saturday nights at 7 p.m.

For more information and details, see the Tallahassee visitor's guide at http://www.co.leon.fl.us/visitors/index.htm.

Dining options

Across the street from the hotel, in the Parkway Plaza, is one of our favorite restaurants, Cabo's. This is a great casual local restaurant and bar, serving burgers, tacos, and fish specials. Great surfer food!!

Also in the Parkway Plaza are Olive Garden and New Leaf market (a natural foods store). Further towards the capitol you'll find LaFiesta (local), Bennigan's, PizzaHut, and Chili's. Applebee's is a block east of the hotel. Further east on Apalachee Parkway are two great local pizza places, Barnaby's (a childhood tradition), and Leaning Tower (great garlic rolls).
